Report on the September 2nd Native and Invasive Lake Plants Workshops

Cathy Higley Lake Conservation Specialist, Vilas County Land & Water Department conducted our last of the year plant workshop on Friday, September 2nd. Those participating all agreed it was a great class and real learning experience!  A BIG thank-you to Captain Mark Osberg for piloting the pontoon boat.

Cathy was very knowledgeable and had collected plants and identified each comparing them to a reference book.  After going through those plants, collection rakes were used by participants to pull in other samples from the lake to identify.

The Lake Association hopes to offer another class next summer and will encourage other lake residents to take advantage of this opportunity in learning more about Van Vliet Lake and the local environment.

Thank you again Cathy and Mark!
